Getting Started

How do I get an OpenAI API key?

Visit platform.openai.com/api-keys, sign in or create an account, and click "Create new secret key". Copy the key and paste it into NexusAI's sidebar.

Is my API key stored securely?

Yes. Your API key is stored only in your browser's localStorage β€” it never touches our servers. We recommend revoking keys you no longer use.

Which model should I use?

For most tasks, GPT-4o Mini is the best balance of speed and cost. Use GPT-4o for complex reasoning, coding, or analysis. GPT-3.5 Turbo is the cheapest option.

How do I generate images?

Switch the mode to "🎨 Image" in the sidebar. Choose your size and model (DALL·E 3 is recommended), then describe the image you want in the text box.

What is the creativity slider?

This controls the temperature parameter. Lower values (0–0.3) give more precise, factual responses. Higher values (0.8–2) give more creative, varied responses.

Can I export my conversations?

Yes! Click the download icon in the top-right of the chat to export your current conversation as a plain text file.

How does chat history work?

Your last 50 conversations are saved locally in your browser. Click any conversation in the sidebar to reload it.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts?

Yes! Press Enter to send a message, Shift+Enter for a new line. More shortcuts coming soon.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API key" error

Double-check your key in OpenAI's dashboard. Make sure it starts with "sk-" and hasn't been revoked. Re-paste it into the sidebar and click Save.

Model not found error

Not all API keys have access to GPT-4 models. You may need to add a payment method to your OpenAI account to unlock GPT-4 access.
